March 20
Powertour staged a test day for the National Saloon
Championship at Silverstone. There were two sessions of fifty minutes
and one of an hour. The organisers also took the opportunity to scrutineer
the cars in preparation for the start of the season this Saturday at
Thruxton.
Both Synchro cars were present after a huge effort by Paul, Andy and
Dave the day before to get Kevin Hicks' car ready. It was a day of mixed
fortunes. Both Dave and Kevin recorded their best times. Dave brought
his best time down from 1m 37.468 to 1m 36.576 whilst Kevin improved
still further dropping his previous best time from 1m 37.557 to 1m 36.568.
However, there are still a number of important changes that are required
before Thruxton.
As with Donington, the Peugeots failed to make an appearance on the
track. Reigning champion Simon Harrison in the new Ford Focus had a
better day than last week steadily putting in better times. Stars of
the day were undoubtedly Matt Kelly in a Nissan Primera and Tobi Masini,
an ex-Spider driver making his first appearance in the National Saloon
Championship in a Mardi Gras prepared Honda Integra.
