Thruxton was the setting for the first round of the newly formed Powertour National Saloon Championship. Both of the Synchro Civics were ready. Preparation, though, had been tough. A tremendous of work had been put into the preparation of the cars for this season. A final private test at Pembrey had gone well with Dave Allan putting in some spectacular laps. Kevin's car that day was still not driveable and it took a big effort by Paul Smith, Andy Scott and Dave Allan to finish the car in time for the official Powertour test at Silverstone two days after the Pembrey test.

The Silverstone test was frustrating in that, even though both drivers turned in their best laps around the circuit, Dave Allan's car in particular had fuel and handling problems. The team had only four days to try to solve these problems in time for this first race at Thruxton.
