April 30/May 1 OULTON PARK (Page 3)
Kevin's session was also not without incident. He completed six laps before he came into the pits with brake fade. Oulton is particularly hard on brakes and it was causing Kevin a few problems. Not least of which was that, when he went back out, he had difficulties at Druids and the car's back end whipped round and he found himself planted into the wall with quite extensive damage to the left hand side of the car.

Nevertheless, he did manage to struggle back to the pits with a very noisy Civic, as the rear silencer box had fallen off in the incident. After the car was checked and passed by the marshals, he went back out but had to retire when, after what was left of his exhaust system, also detached itself from the car. Kevin's times were down on yesterday. He returned a 1m 58.019 to qualify in sixteenth place.

Another sterling effort from the Synchro team saw Kevin's car transformed back into something resembling it's former self.

The race itself was due off at 12.45. Race day, on this Bank Holiday Monday, was sunny and dry and the scene was set for an exciting race in front of large crowds. Both drivers made good starts. Dave particularly as he found himself tucked up right behind the front runners. At the end of the first lap, Dave was eighth, only 0.3 seconds down on the car ahead. Kevin was sixteenth.
