Dave Allan would not be driving at this meeting. He had
to fly to Japan on business on the Friday evening prior to
the race meeting. His place for Round 5 of the Silverstone
Insurance National Saloon Championships would be taken
by Bill Stilwell, the former Saloon 2000 champion and
also Dave and Kevin Hicks' team partner in the big
European 24-hour races at Nurburgring and Spa.

A new, rebuilt engine had been fitted to Dave Allan's car after the demise of his old engine at Donington. In order to help Bill to acclimatise to the car and to check out the new engine, testing had been arranged on the Friday.
