Snetterton in Norfolk was the setting for Round 10 of the National Saloon
Championships. The 1.95-mile circuit has long straights and sweeping
bends making it very much a power circuit. Dave Allan was back for this
round after his absence from the last round at Silverstone.
Unfortunately Synchro Motorsport were again unable to test on the Friday. In fact, Dave Allan's Civic was not completed until the Friday after its rebuild following the Spa 24-hr race. This lack of testing again proved a big factor in the outcome of the race.
The weather was warm and humid on the Saturday for qualifying but the forecast was for rain that thankfully did not materialise by the time qualifying started at 12:01.
Both Dave and Kevin started slowly until disaster struck for Kevin. He had to pull off the track at the end of the pit straight with smoke billowing from the car. This did, in fact, turn out to be a blown engine and necessitated Kevin and Tim Sopp making the 300-mile round trip back to Swindon to pick up a spare engine.
