March 25/26 Thruxton (Page 3)
The National Saloon Championship was the first race on the Sunday and, after the initial razzmatazz, the eighteen cars roared away from the start line at one o'clock.

Both Dave and Kevin made reasonable starts and at the end of the first lap were in twelfth and thirteenth place respectively. Dave was hard on the heels of Brian Ward's Honda Integra with Kevin tucked in behind Dave. They stayed like this for three laps until Dave eased himself ahead of the Integra and and just 0.2 seconds behind the Alfa Romeo of Tom Ferrier.

On lap five, though, Kevin had an incident where his car appeared to cut out and shot him off the track onto the slippery grass. When he rejoined the race, he found himself at the back with a lot to do. He drove well to substantially reduce the distance between himself and the car ahead, Desmond Smail's Honda Integra. By the end of the race, Kevin had reduced the gap from twenty-two seconds to around two.

Dave Allan drove an excellent race. Always in the thick of action, he gave Tom Ferrier in the Alfa Romeo plenty to think about. The original fuel problem had gone away. However, four laps from the end, Dave's Civic started to misfire and gave the Alfa driver his chance to grab back eighth place. They stayed like this to the end of the race with Dave finishing in ninth position. An excellent performance and just the impetus the Synchro team needed for the next meeting at Croft in two weeks time.
