July 1/2 DONINGTON PARK (Page 3)

The cars did two full laps at this pace before the race got underway again, but
Dave was not able to make any real progress up the order. It became apparent that all was not well. Kevin was now up to eleventh as a result of the collision described earlier.

On lap 7 the black and yellow flags were waved again as Tom Ferrier's Alfa had stopped in the middle of the track just after the Melbourne Loop and had to be moved out of the way before the race could start again. Dan Eaves, who was now leading the race, drove very slowly to try to ensure that when the green flag was waved to get the race underway again, there would only be time for one more lap.

On this last lap, Dave managed, mainly through mistakes by others, to get past Paolo Ceci, who had lost out in a dice with Chris Osborn, and Gavin Pyper, who had done the same in his tussle with Tom Boardman. Kevin finished ninth and Dave eleventh in what was another race that is best forgotten and does put in question the Powertour decision to have timed rather than fixed lap races.

The damage to Dave Allan's Civic was considerable. The chassis had been twisted in the incident and many suspension parts broken or badly damaged. It was a credit to Dave's driving that he managed to get so much out of the Civic. The car would need some major rework to get it in shape for Croft in three weeks time.
