Silverstone was the stage for Round 12 and the last meeting of the 2000
season. There was testing for this round on the Friday which the Synchro
team attended. Unfortunately the team were missing Paul Smith, who has
now left Honda. He will be sadly missed as his input to the team's progress
over the last two season's has been immense.
Friday was cold but sunny and there was two 50-minute sessions scheduled. The first session was at midday but only Dave Allan made this session as Kevin was still working. The testing was interrupted twice by red flags. Nevertheless Dave, with a set up he was not entirely happy with, sliced two seconds off his best time around the 3.194 mile Grand Prix with a 2m 11.221 lap. Unfortunately, with two minutes of the session remaining, Dave did not show. His Civic was subsequently towed back to the Synchro awning. The car had lost power down the Hangar Straight and then cut out completely. The problem was quickly spotted as the timing belt had snapped. This necessitated the head being removed and, as a loose bolt had been the cause of the problem, it was decided to change the head. It was fortunate that more damage had not occurred but Dave's car was ready in time for the second test.
