October 7/8 SILVERSTONE (Page 3)

As usual, the National Saloon race was first on at 12.15. It did, in fact, start right on time. Dave, back in eighteenth place on the grid, made a good start. He was balked slightly by Nick James at the first corner but by the end of lap one, was up to thirteenth place. Kevin had dropped back two places to sixteenth. Lap two and Dave had continued to improve. He was twelfth and took Chris Osborn at Copse to move into eleventh place. Kevin was also up one to fifteenth.

Dave said afterwards that the car was going well. He felt that he was catching the cars ahead of him quite noticeably. However, this race was not to be for Dave as, on his third lap, a grub screw had worked loose on the distributor. The car lost power and his race, sadly, was over.

Kevin, meanwhile, drove a steady race and came home in ninth place. The seven points gained kept him in the top ten in the championship where he finished, very creditably, in eight position.

The season is now over for the Synchro team. Because of the uncertainty surrounding the future of the National Saloons, Synchro's plans for next year are still yet to be decided. Hopefully the organisers will sort out the mess and leave the team plenty of time to plan for 2001.
